Hopeful Economic Signs = Time to Accelerate Growth

We will stop short of bursting into “We’re In the Money” or “Happy Days Are Here Again,” but this week saw some hopeful, positive economic reports. Whether or not these early returns hold true is a topic for debate, but regardless of the outcome, now is the time to put planning front and center to position your company for a future advantage.
So now the good news!
On Sept. 9, Moody’s Economy.com Chief Economist Mark Zandi stated unequivocally:
The Great Recession that began in December 2007 likely ended in August 2009.
Although a bond-rating agency that was arguably asleep at the switch before the crisis, Moody’s prognostications have been spot-on over the last 7-8 months. Zandi’s picture of the ongoing recovery is not exactly pretty, and he is quick to point out that there is still a lot of work to do and that a lot can still go wrong. But after 17 months of recession, this counts as good news!
As Benjamin Disraeli famously said, there are “lies, damn lies and statistics,” so you can probably read these trends any way you prefer. If the economy is back on the long road to recovery, now is the time to align your organization to make the most of the return of consumers and businesses. If we are due for another drop in the markets and broader economy, it is critical to position your firm in the most secure possible position.
If the “Great Recession” did indeed end in August, it would appear that American businesses expertly cut and contained costs over the past 18 months.
