The Night Is For Sleeping – How To Help Your Child To A Good Nights Sleep

Many young children have great difficulty in saying goodbye to the day and settle down. At the same time their father and mother are hoping that they will soon get their evenings and nights back. They can be very long, if you get into a bad sleeping rhythm.

If you have enough space to give your children their own room, you should let them sleep there, or in their own bed, before they are six years old. The children often sleeps better, and also helps the parents to be adults together again.

A lot of people think it is wrong to separate a child from its parents at night. Quite the contrary! Unless the child is sick or has experienced violent and gruesome events, most children benefit from sleeping for themselves for several reasons. Parents need space, so they again can be more than just parents.

If they forget about each other, things will go wrong, and this is even worse for the child. The child will only have a good life, if the parents are doing well together. And the time they need to each other, they can only have if the child does not take up all the time.

Sleeping rituals are good

If a child refuses to lie down to sleep for the night, it is the job of parents gently and lovingly to push the child in the right direction. Although we have to frustrate our child a bit in this way, there is no reason to be worried just because the child protests. Children can handle this fine, when the child is half a year old.

An overtired baby is often very difficult to calm. Therefore, you should rather put the baby to sleep half an hour too early than half an hour late.

The last hour before sleeping time, the child should start to slow down in pace. Wild games will simply make the heart beat faster. A bath the other hand, relaxes the body and is a great way to be close with your child.

When a child is in bed, you can perform a ritual every night where you for instance sings a few songs. With older children you can also read a bit of a book. The sleeping ritual should not last more than fifteen minutes.
