Pen and ink refers to artwork that relies on the use of some special drawing pens and their corresponding type of ink. The pens are precisely designed to fit the type of work they are meant to do. This calls for an understanding on the part of an artist on the kind of product or painting he wants to end up with. Some pens have specially designed nibs that can help one achieve a lot of details in the artwork.
Pens and ink helps one to come up with outlines of drawings, which is basically the first step to pen drawing. To make the drawings more useful and more appealing, artists can apply color to bring out the details with more glamour. The color, if correctly used, can also be a way in which the texture of the drawings can be emphasized.
Choice of paper in the pen and ink artwork goes a long way in determining the quality of the end product. The most commonly used type of paper is the sketchbook paper. However, fine nibs tend to produce irregularities since they catch on the rough surface of the paper. Watercolor paper is also another type that can be used. The paper withstands incase one may need to reuse it.
